Frequently Asked Questions

Contact me at Hannah@northamptonshiretherapy.com if you can't find the answer to your question.

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling and what you’d like from the process. There’s no pressure — you can use the time however feels right for you.

You don’t need to be in crisis or have a diagnosis to come to counselling. If you feel something isn’t quite right, or you’d like space to talk things through, counselling can help. Our free 20-minute call is a good way to see if it feels like a fit.

Person-centred counselling is a gentle, explorative approach where you set the pace and choose what to focus on. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is more structured, with practical tools to help you manage specific issues like anxiety or stress. Sometimes people use a blend of both.

That’s completely up to you. Some people come for just a few sessions, while others stay longer-term. We’ll review as we go along, and you can end whenever you feel ready.

Yes. Many people find online sessions just as helpful as in-person ones, with the added flexibility of joining from home. It’s a safe and confidential way to work together.

Walk-and-talk therapy is counselling outdoors. We walk side by side in natural surroundings, which some people find helps them feel more at ease. It’s still person-centred counselling — just in a different setting.

Yes. What you share in counselling is private. The only exceptions are if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, or if I’m legally required to share information. I’ll always talk to you about this first wherever possible.

Sessions cost £55 and payment is usually made by bank transfer before each appointment. Details will be provided when you book.

If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, there’s no charge. Sessions cancelled with less notice may still be charged.

I sometimes have a limited number of reduced-fee sessions available for people on lower incomes. Please ask if this might help.
